My first beer ever in Germany

We walked into the bar and then realized "shit, we don't know any German, how are we going to order any beer," and voila, like magic...an American popped out of the woodwork and asked us what we wanted. A Californian who moved to Germany 2 years ago and hasn't been back to the states since...now fluent in German. The guy knew the owner of the bar and gave us free shots of home made pear schnapps.

Since Germany was just across the river, we thought we'd be rebellious and check it out. Ready with passports in hand, we took the bus and there we were, no border patrol.

We spent a weekend in the Alsace Region of France. It's known for it's white whites and German influence since it's just near the border. We spent one night at a hostel in the middle of no where and 2 nights in Strasbourg.
