I lost my camera.
Before the Match
Saturday night (7/1) was the semi-final round of the world cup when France beat Brazil and was probably one of my most memorable nights so far. Wes, Erica, Lizz and I went to an english bar called the Smoking Dog in Vieux Lyon to watch the game, but it was so packed we just sat outside on the terrace and chatted with a cool French guy named Julien. The conversation was completely in french which made it pretty interesting.
After the Match
Things were insane, people were honking, screaming, celebrating. We walked to Place de Terreux, a big open square with 5 dozen small fountains and a really cool big lit up fountain, surrounded by the Fine Arts Museum and the Hotel de Ville (City Hall). Wes and I noticed everyone climbing the scaffold to the top of the City Hall...so we looked at eachother and agreed with a nod. We had a great view of everyone in the squre throwing bottles, reving up their engines and peeling out.
After we left the Hotel de Ville, we tried getting into a popular English / Australian bar but we were victims of racial discrimination. The 2 black doormen denied us entry, yet allowed the 10 multicolored people behind us in. We stayed in line for 20 minutes and tried to annoy the hell out of him, but after he physically shoved me we figured it was probably time to get a move on.
On the walk home we stopped to hang out on the sidewalk at 3am and watched this drunk driver get pulled over by the Police in an unmarked, green POS car. It was an interesting experience because 5 minutes later they slapped him on the wrist and let him go. And then I lost my Camera.
